About Us

Who We Are

We are a growing group of concerned citizens (students, educators, parents, legislators) who believe that educating children about climate change is critical to empower them and their families to take action to address the Climate Emergency and to equip them for the jobs of the future. We are exploring ways to support legislation in IL that would ensure equity-focused climate education.    

CE4IL helped to get Bill HB4895 passed in Illinois and are now working with Subject to Climate to create a resource Hub of Climate Education materials for Illinois

Our Operating Principles

  • Learn and reapply from other states that have passed climate curriculum legislation along with learning from those in Illinois who have successfully advocated for Education and/or Environmental legislation (eg Native American Education, CEJA).
  • Involve key stakeholders (teachers, students, parents, legislators to name a few).  Ensure that youth have a voice
  • Equity-justice focus
  • Education standards/curriculum should be age-appropriate, solution-based and centered on meaningful local examples.  They should be developed with teacher input.
  • Implementation strategies that include professional development need to be developed with teacher input
